The qualification system for the Karate event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games has been revised to include the different contingency plans regarding the celebration of the pending qualifying tournaments.

In coordination with the International Olympic Committee, the update of the qualification system for the Karate competition at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games has been now published. Since the coronavirus pandemic continues having an impact on Karate events, it was essential to present different alternatives in the case that the upcoming scheduled tournaments are affected by the epidemic.

As it was previously announced, the Olympic qualifying events which could not be celebrated in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic were moved to the 2021 season. These events are the Karate 1-Premier League Rabat, the EKF Senior Championships, and the Tokyo 2020 Qualification Tournament. Following the postponement of these tournaments, the 2021 Karate 1-Premier League Rabat is now scheduled to take place from April 9 to 11, the 2021 EKF Senior Championships is set to take place in Porec (Croatia) from May 19 to 23, and the Tokyo 2020 Qualification Tournament is slated for June, 11-13 in Paris (France).
