Kata selection trends in top-level para-karate competitions: a multi-championship study

“Para-karate was first introduced at the World Champion-ships in Paris in 2012 and has since become an integralpart of the World Karate Federation (WKF) Senior events, with competitions held every two years. In 2015, the WKF was recognized as a member organization by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) [1].

Para-karate provides athletes with disabilities the opportunity to compete in the kata discipline, which emphasizes choreographed martial arts movements known as “forms.” Kata involves executing a predetermined series of techniques, including strikes, blocks, stepping, kicks, and turns, all aimed at achieving technical perfection.
